Ancient Jewelry

Our showcases offer more than 100 international dealers specializing in fine art and decorative objects and presents collections ranging from classical antiquity through the 1960s, including masterworks of Greek, Roman and Egyptian periods; Asian art; tribal art; Old Master paintings; American and European 19th- and early 20th-century fine art; classic modernism; 18th- through 20th-century furniture; contemporary jewelry and historical jewelry ; armor; textiles and rugs; silver and ceramics; and objects d'art.

Our rings range from classic, wearable confections to strange, clever, unbearable forms that are occasionally unrecognizable as rings. Quite a few bear the same relation to actual body adornment that ceramic sculptures in vessel form bear to functional pots--they are about looking, not using. One interesting ring shaped like a crab claw would stab you in the palm if you put it on.

In our field, artists working digitally are applying different strategies to design and manufacture new jewelry and objects. Current exploration and practice are defined by at least two distinct strategies: the medium-specific and the non-medium-specific. A relatively small group of artists are discovering aesthetic values intrinsic to the digital medium by working discretely within the medium. The new tangible work successfully engages the RP technologies so that objects are not "prototypes" in the sense of "models," but rather are finished, tangible objects of art. It is 3-D printing.
